On December 6, Garib Harutyunyan, executive director of the “Gyumri without makeshift shelters” Foundation, presented the activities of the Foundation in 2017.
He noted that Foundation continues implementation of its mission to release Gyumri from makeshift shelters.
During the last year the Foundation continued to give social apartments to families living in makeshift shelters. In the course of its activities, the Foundation provided 27 social apartments.
In 2017 a number of charitable initiatives, concerts, intellectual games, presentation of the book was held, during which tall gathered money was transferred to the Foundation.
The Foundation has developed a database on all temporary shelters addresses in Gyumri, corrected information regarding the families living in makeshift shelters and updates information. Visits to makeshift shelters were organized, discussions were held with residents, research and monitoring also were implemented by Foundation’s volunteers.
As a result of monitoring, it was indicated that there are 2983 makeshift shelters in Gyumri, of which 2399 are inhabited and 584 – no. 1508 of them are made whit tin, 577 –with stone, 314 –are semi-stoned.
During the monitoring all the data on temporary shelters was updated.
The representative of Foundation works in framework of the Committee on demolishing makeshift shelters of Gyumri Municipality.
As a result of direct or indirect activities of the Foundation, 104 temporary shelters were liquidated.
Many organizations, enterprises, individuals both from Armenia and from the Diaspora share the mission of the Foundation.
Among Foundation’s donors are: “Electric Networks of Armenia” CJSC, “Lentex” LLC, “Shirak” compatriot association, Shirak State University and the companies “Dilma” and “Sovrano”. Stepan and Hilda Grkasharyans, as well as political parties -Republican Party of Armenia and The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) party.
In connection with the 30th anniversary of the earthquake, the Foundation initiated a number of projects and activities. A charity dinner and festival, an auction, an Internet exhibition-sale, the holding of an all-Armenian intellectual game are some of the events planned for the next year.
Information about the Foundation
In December 2015 “Gyumri without makeshift shelters” Foundation was established. The main goal of Foundation is to improve the living conditions of residents living in temporary shelters and to release Gyumri from makeshift shelters.
The Foundation provides social apartments to its beneficiaries without transferring to them ownership of the apartment. Thus, the Foundation excludes the sale of the apartment by beneficiaries and their relocation to another temporary shelter.
The Board of Trustees of the Foundation decided to establish a sequence of works on the release of Gyumri from the makeshift shelters, district by district. Based on this decision, priority was given to district No. 234 of the Friendship Park.
